Guest guest
Vegetarians want world to see their funky side Weekend conference prefers comedy, food to moralizing Nate Hendley National Post " We vegetarians have a really bad image. And for the most part, we've earned it, " says Howard Lyman, a Montana cattle rancher turned anti-meat activist. Speaking at a press conference for the 34th World Vegetarian Congress at the Colony Hotel yesterday, Mr. Lyman criticized vegetarians for being rigid and overly moralistic. Condemning people for eating meat, wearing leather or looking at zoo animals " doesn't educate anyone, " he stated. While critical of fellow vegetarians, Mr. Lyman is no fan of so-called carnivore culture. He was once famously sued, along with TV host Oprah Winfrey, for blasting the beef industry on live television. Mr. Lyman won that case, but he urges vegetarians to take it easy and start enjoying life. " If you can't make people laugh, you can't make people learn, " he said. http://www.nationalpost.com/search/story.html?f=/stories/20000712/341797.html
