Guest guest
Who on this list has dogs, vegetarian or nonvegetarian? Could you also tell me in which geographical area you live, notably nation and state (and city is nice, also). I am also interested in those with cats, vegetarian or nonvegetarian, but ESPECIALLY interested in those with experiences with vegetarian cats. Has ANYONE every read about " Little Tyke " , the famous vegetarian lioness? Maynard
Guest guest
Hi Maynard; We have an 8 year old big vegetarian dog Bart, doberman x shepherd. He is 65 lbs of energy! He has been eating Nature's Recipe Vegetarian Kibble since he was about 1 years old. As we eat vegan in our household, the only treats he gets other than that are fruit (he loves grapes and mango), rice, beans, peanut butter on bread... his favourite thing of all time is the brassica family of vegetables... broccoli, cauliflour, brussel sprouts... I kid you not... he LOVES those. We have fed him homemade vegan meals at times, rice, beans, veggies and peanut butter with garlic and nutritional yeast for interest. A B12 supplement would be needed to feed them that way all the time of course. I make vegan doggie biscuits occassionally. They are very oily and GARLICKY! Last Christmas, I made a big batch for a craft sale, had packaged 6 biscuits per bag and put the whole lot of them on the ping pong table downstairs. He snuck down, opened and ate 13 bags worth all at once! We don't have access to vegetarian cat food locally, but my experience with vegetarian cat feeding isn't positive anyway. Our last cat wouldn't eat it when we tried it with him. This cat likes plant foods, but throws them up. About the only plant food he seems to be able to keep down is rice milk. Guest guest
Hi Maynard, I have read about the veggie lioness. The story is there online at: http://www.montanasat.net/vegepet/vcd.html Also, I don't have a pet myself, but I have heard and known people who have had a lot of success with veggie cat and dog foods. VegeCat, VegeKit and VegeDog are veternarian-approved plant-based foods that have been used by several people with great results. One of the main concerns that people have in providing veggie food for pets is the availability of taurine. While it used to be true that taurine was not found in many plant-based foods, the ones mentioned above come fortified with taurine. Also, these foods meet the nutritional requirements set forth by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO). I have read several wonderful experiences that people (or their pets) have had with these foods but will quote just one of these below: <<<Our beautiful Siamese, Melaney, is 10-years-old and was acting her age. But after just two or three weeks of Vegecat™ supplement she was literally racing around and behaving as playfully as a kitten. It was wonderful to see her return to her old self.
