The final race features morbidly obese potbellied pigs who were obviously overfed to add to the " comic " value of the act. SEND LETTERS TO: acfair SAMPLE LETTER: I am writing in reference to the " Robinson's Racing Pigs " act which has been featured as part of Arlington County Fair this year. I urge you to NOT feature this act again when you book your acts for next years fair. The pigs are stressed by the environment and the noise of the crowd. People have been seen throwing objects at the pigs to get them to run faster. The potbellies, who have been purposely overfed to the point of obesity, are particularly tragic since they are barely able to walk. These pigs are often raced in hot and humid conditions and kept in substandard conditions. They are often forced to perform numerous times each day during the fair's run. By featuring this act as part of your fair, you are contributing to the inhumane treatment of animals and endorsing animal abuse. Thank you for your time. He tells us that the fur used to make the toys is a " byproduct " of the rabbit meat industry. Sadly, VO-TOYS is not alone in failing to recognize the cruel irony of making toys for companion animals derived from the skins of other, less fortunate animals. Most of the animals shot in canned hunts are rare species sold to dealers by zoos and are usually so tame they don't even run away from the gun-toting humans chasing them. Not surprisingly, prominent Safari Club members have been charged with unethical and illegal hunting methods. DO NOT RESPOND TO ME. ---- I do some volunteer work with a no-kill companion animal rescue, Jethro's Place, and a few days ago they received a frantic call from a lady that works at an adult foster home for the elderly and disabled humans. When she went to work that morning she found a nursing mother dog and 17 puppies (all hers!). They had been dumped. The woman who contacted us fell in love with the mother and is adopting her (she will be spayed as soon as she is able!) But we desperately need help with 9 of the puppies. 8 of the puppies have foster homes. We are interested in breaking them up in groups. They are lab/rott or dob mixes, they are black and tan. They are almost 6 weeks old. We are seeking foster homes in or near the Metro Detroit area. We only have a few days to move the puppies. It is just to much for them to handle and still take care of their residents. We are also on a tight time line with 2 other dogs and need foster/permanent homes for them. Jake is a pure bred yellow lab male. He is 8 years old and was used a stud dog. Spice is 3 years old female shep. mix, medium size, and her owners have to give her up due to illness. They are from Europe and the woman is suffering from a rare disease and has to go back to her country to receive treatment. She said he's very very friendly, has a great personality and has been cared for so he is healthy and ready to be adopted. Unfortuanately because of his age if he is not adopted within the next day or so he will be put to sleep because of how crowded the shelter is. The advantages of non-animal ETI training have been demonstrated in the medical literature. An Annals of Emergency Medicine study detailed the high ETI success rates achieved by paramedics trained on mannequins exclusively. In addition to their high performance rate, " 88% of the mannequin-only group felt confident in their ETI skills during their first actual encounter and [felt] that their first human ETI was no different than their repetitive practices on the mannequin. Many of them are beaten to death or are sliced with a knife and tied upside down from trees and left to bleed. Mr. Lohanan, who inspected one slaughterhouse, claims it sometimes takes up to twenty minutes for the dogs to die. The skins of these mistreated animals are then sold to many different countries and mislabeled as the cruel, yet more socially acceptable, " cow skin. " Some of the leather sold in the U.S. is also made from horses, sheep, lambs, goats, and cats. WHAT YOU CAN DO: Stop buying garments, shoes, and accessories made from animal skin. When you buy leather, you can't tell where it came from or who it was made from–all you can be sure of is that you're supporting an industry that profits from pain and suffering.
