CHICO STATE UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR PLANS TO EXPOSE HEALTHY DUCKS TO OIL

 

 

BACKGROUND:

Chico State University Professor Marti Wolf has received a grant from

a Venezuelan oil company to conduct oil contamination experiments on

ducks. Wolf plans to expose healthy ducks to both natural and

synthetic oils and then kill them to determine how the oils have

impacted the animals'livers and blood.

 

There have been thousands of oil spills over the last several decades

that have provided researchers with a mountain of evidence showing the

negative impact that oil has on wildlife, including ducks. Oil,

whether natural or synthetic, is harmful to animals, an there is no

excuse for the types of experiments reportedly planned by Wolf. If

Wolf is interested in protecting wildlife, she should focus her efforts

on preventing oil spills, rather than subjecting animals to cruel and

useless experiments.

experiment.

Mr. Esteban:

 

I am writing to inquire if Chico State University is intending to

proceed with experiments which would expose healthy ducks to both

natural and synthetic oils and then kill them to determine how the oils

have impacted the animals' livers and blood.

 

I find these experiments to not only be inhumane, but also useless.

There have been thousands of oil spills over the last several decades

that have provided researchers with a mountain of evidence showing the

negative impact that oil has on wildlife, including ducks.

 

To proceed with such experiments would not only damage the reputation of

the school, but would also cause potential donors to think twice

before donating funds to the school.

 

Does the university have that much money to throw away that you can get cash

dollars for performing superfluous, cruel and unnecessary Mengele-like

experimentation? Help our citizens, the environment and your university's

reputation by studying EXISTING oil spills and helping the creatures already

afflicted. I'm sure there are many animal cadavers from these spills that

you could readily dissect without causing otherwise healthy animals to

suffer.

 

Shame on you. Please know I will do everything in my power to draw public

attention to what you are doing and rescind any public and private money you

are shamelessly wasting in this " experiment. " The truth will be heard!
