Guest guest
Help Make Macy's, Neiman Marcus, and Nordstrom Fur Free Source- Animal Protection Institute (apiforanimals.org) Perhaps responding to industry hyperbole that " Fur Is Back! " , the Macy's East, Neiman Marcus, and Nordstrom department stores continue to promote animal cruelty by selling fur. Nordstrom CEO Peter Nordstrom has indicated that he may consider pulling fur from the stores if a majority of Nordstrom customers oppose the selling of fur. He, Gerald Sampson, CEO of Neiman Marcus, and Harold Kahn, CEO of Macy's, need to know the truth about the fur industry. Please help flood these major department stores with polite letters, urging them to stop selling furs. Write to: Mr. Harold Kahn, CEO Macy's East 151 W. 34th Street, 17th Floor New York, NY 10021 Mr. Gerald Sampson, President/CEO Neiman Marcus 1618 Main Street Dallas, TX 75201 Mr. Peter Nordstrom, President/CEO Nordstrom Department Stores 1501 5th Avenue Seattle, WA 98101-1603 Be sure to mention in your letters that you shop in these stores and whether you hold a current charge account. Here are other points you may want to include in your letters: Every year millions of bobcats, wolves, lynx, foxes, beavers, raccoons, otters, coyotes, and other furbearing animals suffer excruciating pain and brutal deaths in body-gripping and leghold traps to provide the " raw materials " for fur garments. More than 30 million additional animals are bred and raised in barren wire cages, also victims of cruel fashion. Each of these animals dies a horrible death, whether by bludgeoning, suffocation, electrocution or drowning. The majority of Americans oppose the killing of animals for their fur. According to a 1995 Associated Press poll, 59% of Americans believe it is always wrong to kill an animal for its fur. In a 1996 Caravan Opinion poll, 74% of Americans believe leghold traps should be outlawed. A 1997 poll conducted in California showed that 83% of voters oppose the killing of animals for their fur, and on November 3, 1998, Californians passed a ballot measure banning the sale of raw fur from animals caught in body-gripping traps in state. A survey conducted recently at " high-end " shopping centers in seven states and Washington DC revealed that 86% of shoppers were " bothered " by the way animals are killed for fur, and a majority said they would consider not shopping at stores that sell it. Many garment stores and a number of department stores have made the enlightened decision to stop selling fur. Macy's, Neiman Marcus, and Nordstrom should do the same. This cruelty has no excuse nor need to continue. Thank you for helping to end the senseless cruelty of the fur industry! _______________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
