Guest guest
Hi all - What do you tell anti-vegetarians who cop an attitude and say " well, plants are alive too; why do have no problem with killing them? " I say that while I regret having to kill living beings at ll, I have to eat to live. I can live without eating animals, but not without eating plants. But they JUST...DON'T...GET... IT. What can I do other than telling them to stick it? Thanks, Annie

Plants lack central nervous systems, and thus have no consciousness and can not experience pain... and, of course, the narrow minded meat-eaters will ask about fly traps and sensitivity plants, but it's not like you eat those plants. But the anti-vegetarian masses usually won't take no for an answer, so it's best just to ignore them (or push them down long flights of stairs). --- Donald Tetto [ tetto ] rafter [ http://tetto.org/rafter ] " But if you are smart, you ignore every single word I say, and find your own way to live and don't let anybody tell you what to do. These discussions usually come up at meal times, and I have a rule against discussing this stuff over meals anyway, and you can also use that. I dont have much experience actually arguing with people and dread it. I suppose you could just turn the tables and ask them why they do or dont eat various things. Like worms are meat, why dont you eat those? If they ask, where you get your protein, you could answer and then ask where they get their fiber and anti-oxidants! But as a general rule, I avoid unproductive conflict. G _____________________ Free Unlimited Internet Access! Something which has always stuck with me is this: Carnivores like to say they need to eat meat to be strong and to live. But the animals that carnivores eat (pigs, cows, chickens, etc) are all vegetarians. If *they* are getting *their* complete nutrition from eating a vegetarian diet, why would *we* need to eat the *animals*??? The most logical thing to do is to eat what *they* eat.... Hi Annie; I think the answer you have been giving is the best answer I have seen to that question. If they don't understand that answer, maybe you could suggest that they just think about it for awhile, and then maybe talk about again later. Guest guest
The other issue that's rather obvious is the fact that most vegetable plants grow to bear their fruit, produce the vegetable and then die a natural death anyway. Their whole mission in life s to be the bearer of their product and then they are through. If we don't pick it and eat it, it dies regardless. Unlike our beloved creatures who have brains and lives separate and distinct. Trees are also just the bearers of their product. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> " Nonviolence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution.
