All we ask is that you read the information and write a letter. Thank you for your time from the feral cats and myself. This is what I have learned from one of the caretakers. You can use some/all/or parts of this letter to get the message out. August 25th, a female employee with Boeing Long Beach was followed to her van by a Boeing Security Guard. The Security Guard said, " You're not feeding cats are you?, If you're feeding cats you'll be terminated. You've been warned. " Since August 25th, the cats have not been fed. This same Security Guard had previously been very helpful to the cat caretakers. Perhaps the reason for his change of heart may lie in the fact that on Tuesday, Sept 5th, The Jetliners Online, (a Boeing Long Beach newpaper), will feature an article that says that Boeing Long Beach has placed a moratorum on employee trapping, as Boeing Long Beach has contracted with an exterminating company to deal with the proliferation of feral cats. (This extermination company will take the cats to be euthanized at the local pound. It is almost certain that by the time The Jetliners Online begins circulation tomorrow, the exterminating company will begin their trapping. Once corporate makes an announcement, they have already put the wheels in motion.) The caretakers have removed 105 tame kittens/cats from this plant in the last year. They estimate that there are about 200 more. July 17th, 2000, Mr. Al Jennings, Boeing Long Beach Facilities Dept., received written proposals on the importance of spay/neuter/return from Actors and Other for Animals, In Defense of Animals, Alley Cat Allies, Long Beach City College, and Cheri Minauri a Boeing Mesa, AZ employee. Perhaps Mr. Jennings, along with the testimony of experts, could not convince upper management that spay/neuter/return solution is the best solution. We desperately need your help to put pressure on Boeing's Upper Management in re the decision to use an exterminating company rather than volunteers from local rescue groups. These cats have somehow managed to survive on an asphault parking lot inside a fenced enclosure with no hope of a future until these caretakers stepped in to help them. WHAT YOU CAN DO: Time is of the essence in this matter. I need hundreds of voices that will loudly proclaim their displeasure in the certain deaths of these cats (and convince Boeing to use local rescue groups to manage the feral cat situation). Please send your letters to: Mr. Jim Phillips, President Boeing Long Beach 3855 Lakewood Blvd. Long Beach, CA 90846 PHONE: 562-593-5400, FAX: 562-982-8220 email: james.r.phillips2 SAMPLE LETTER: Mr. Phillips: I am very concerned about recent reports I have heard that you are planning on killing feral cats. It appears that there is no shortage of qualified, experienced feral rescue groups available to help Boeing resolve what it apparently considers to be a feral cat problem, presumably at no cost o Boeing or taxpayers. I can't seem to help wondering why Boeing is so resistant to discussing the matter with qualified feral rescue groups in order to find a more acceptable solution to the situation than killing animals. I personally have been involved in feral cat rescue for over 15 years and can confidently say that exterminating a cat colony does not work and in the long run will cost you more than the time-proven, effective method of trapping and neutering. Also I think you should consider that other major forces, such as the US Navy, have also tried to implement plans such as what you are proposing and have failed. Thank you for your time and I look forward to your reply. Sincerely, ````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` 2.DONKEYS NEED HELP - ONE ALREADY DEAD Please go to the following URL and write a letter against what has happened. I am pleased to say that the cat looks like he will make it and the police department in at this time making an arrest. The sad news and the area I need help with is with one radio station in our area who found this whole event funny. On the morning program of Rock 102 the story of the burned cat was combine with the Ware feast on The Street ( a block style diner next weekend). The whole incident was turned into a joke. I have called the morning producer for the station and given him a ear full. I also emailed photos of this poor cat and invited the DJ who found this so amusing to join me in cleaning the cats wounds. Thought we would see how amused he was after that adventure. I am now asking that everyone involved with animals send an email to the producer letting him know that making a joke of animal abuse will not be tolerated. Also ask people on your mailing list to send it to people on their mailing list. Please help spread the word. SEND LETTERS TO: Producers email is rzorn SAMPLE LETTER: To Whom It May Concern: I am extremely upset to hear that your station turned an incident of animal abuse into a joke. I am involved in animal rescue and I can assure you that seeing animals who have been burned, mutilated, eyes gouged out, stabbed, shot, etc. is not at all funny. By promoting a kitten set on fire as a joke you are directly contributing to the animal abuse crisis that this country, as well as the world, is facing. I certainly hope if you or a member of your family is unfortunately the victim of some type of crime you do not have to endure more pain because of the ignorance of people such as yourself. She says he is UTD on shots. She has had him since he was a pup and now wants to give him away. They like to travel, they don't like to take him and boarding is expensive. He doesn't play like he used to since their 15 month old child came along (he's 15 months older, too!)he has stomach upsets when he gets stressed and they just got white carpet. He is causing problems in her marriage, he barks. Her vet won't put him down since there is nothing physically wrong with him. She had an idea that rescue is like a sanctuary. She could place him here and he could live out his life with us. Don't I wish! If anyone can help, please contact the owner directly and please no flaming. We gave it to her pretty straight from the shoulder already. We are full up and can not take anymore " permanent residents " . My heart is breaking for BJ and if there is anyone out there who has or can find him a forever home please contact the owner: Kim Cifelli 804-744- 4830. She does not have email. Barrett ph: days 207-287-5046 nights 207-832- 4381 FORWARDED MESSAGE: While traveling from Maine to Montana, I lost a 5 month old half Maine Coon and half Himalayn female kitten out the window of our camper. It happened somewhere between Littleton Massachusetts traveling 495 to 290 and then 90 to Route 81 and 84. We left the KOA in Littleton on the morning of 8/12 and stopped for lunch right after getting into New York to find that she had accidentally fallen through a screened small window which was only open a few inches for air... It was a horrible experience and I had given her up for dead but after returning home, I just can't get her out of my mind. Her name is Patty. She is shaggy like a Maine Coon with a large tail like a Coon-Himalayan. She is mottled in coloring like a Classic Brown Tabby Coon cat. I suspect that when we got onto Route 290 with all the construction, she may have gotten scared in the camper and pushed herself between the pet carrier which was placed in front of the window and the screen.... the rip in the screen indicates that she did not claw herself out... it was like she fell through the screen. My husband and I cried and cried. I was taking her to Montana as a gift for my daughter who was married on 8/19. I have her mother (a full Maine Coon) and purposely bred her with a Himalyan brown seal point. If you have any ideas of where else I could email please let me know! If she by any chance survived, was found, was injured, cared for by a vet... whatever... I would reimburse and come and get her! I am a true animal lover and I always take care of my pets. I have her mother, and another cat I saved from being shot. I have a half lab/half golden 8 year old dog. My vet is Medomak Veterinary Services, Laurie Howarth, DVM, 1257 Friendship Road, Waldoboro, Maine, 04572, 207-832-7786. I haven't told Laurie about what happened yet...but she knew I was taking Patty to Montana and had copies of Patty's vet record with me. She'd had all her shots! Although was not yet spayed.... Thanks for your time and attention to this matter. Cheryl S. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE TIME CONTACTING ME AS I HAVE NO FURTHER INFO. CA cat needs help: Today, an apparently blind, but otherwise healthy male Siamese kitten (3-4 mos.) was turned into the veterinary clinic where I work. We are located in Northern California (Oroville, about an hour north of Sacramento). He was scheduled to be euthanized and has a limited reprieve through one of the doctors. If a home or foster situation can not be found in the next 24-48 hours, he will be euthanized. He is quite thinand scared, but I'm sure that he would come to make a great pet for the person willing to work with him. I would take him myself if I didn't have a cat-hungry sighthound! Please email me, Serafina Cupido, at cannelle or call the clinic at 530-533-1194. ``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` 8.LETTERS NEEDED FOR PITBULL - SAMPLE LETTER BACKGROUND: Napoleon, (an american staffordshire, aka " pit bull " ) desperately needs your help. In April of this year Lena Emolo, age 78 suffered a stroke. A few weeks later, she was home recovering. As she lay in bed, her beloved dog Napoleon (who is very protective of her and her granddaughter) lay in bed under the covers with her. She has had Napoleon all his life (heis eleven years old). As they lay in bed, Lena's other dog, Ceasar Jumped on the bed, and being as protective as Napoleon is, a fight then ensued between the two dogs. While trying to break up the fight, Lena and her granddaughter were bitten. It is unknown which dog bit who, therefore both animals were taken by Animal Control. (a neighbor who dislikes Napoleon contacted AC) When Lena returned , she found a note on the door, and went to retrieve her babies. However, AC would not release Napoleon pending that Napoleon was a danger, and that a court hearing was necessary to determine Napoleon's fate. Just FYI, Napoleon was the only " Pit Bull " involved in the fight. Lena received notice of the hearing, however was not advised that she could hire an attorney, nor was she even capable of understanding the consequences of the hearing. On June 26, 2000, she went alone and testified. The Sacramento County Code states that an animal has to have bitten or attacked four times within the past five years to be declared vicious (the attorney assisting Lena does not have the code, nor was Lena sent a copy). Further the decision by the Board states that because there were 4 bites in 5 years (not accurate), napoleon is " vicious " . Evidence contradicts this verdict. Following 1995, there has been ONE, and only One accounted for injury when Lena fell down while talking to a neighbor, and screamed, Napoleon reacted by biting the man (he was obviously trying to protect Lena). Even the quarantine report filled out by AC is unsure which dog bit who. Yet to no surprise, Napoleon was deemed vicious and stated to be killed as a result. Napoleon has been imprisoned for over 100 days, Lena is heartbroken, she visits him everyday with toys and food. The county just sent Lena a letter saying that he will be destroyed on September 25, 2000. TIME IS RUNNING SHORT for both Napoleon and Lena. WHAT YOU CAN DO: Write to Lisa Travis, Esq County Counsel 700 " H " Street Suite 2650 Sacramento, CA 95814 Urge her that by taking him away from his home & loved ones is WRONG. Napoleon must be released!! Please, again, Napoleon belongs at home, with Lena. Lena misses him dearly. SAMPLE LETTER: Ms. Travis: I am contacting you in reference to the pitbull Napoleon who was removed from his home. This dog was unaccurately labeled " vicious " . Please review the facts of this case and return Napoleon to his home with his owner where he belongs. Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing that Napoleon has been reunited with his owner. Sincerely, ```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` 9.A WORTHY CAUSE Please visit: http://www.geocities.com/ewftn/wolf.html to learn about the EagleWolf Foundation, a wolf and wolf-dog rescue that is in need of supplies, funding, and sponsors. _______________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
