Guest guest
1. Meat eaters often tell me " well, plants are alive, too. " Apparently, their reasoning is that if plants are alive and it's morally acceptable to kill them, then it must be morally acceptable to kill animals, which are also alive. Under that same line of reasoning, wouldn't is also be OK to kill humans? They're alive, aren't they? 2. I was looking through a cookbook last night and found a recipe that called for vegan honey. Huh? Thanks, Annie
Guest guest
Hi Scottishswitch3! I get that stupid plant-pain argument thrown at me all the time from 'meaters'. Ages ago when Anji and I started this list the very same topic came up almost right away. I think its a typical devils advocate stance. All I usually say, if I bother saying anything is 'well it's already been established without dispute that animals feel the same pain that we do. Although it is POSSIBLE that vegetation feels pain, it is still questionable. Since it has been proven that animals share the same nervous system that we do, and I do not want to inflinct pain on my fellow mammals, vegetarianism is a good way to start for a non violent diet. We can't be perfect in our diet, but stopping pain where we KNOW it can happen is a good start.' Or something like that. As for VEGAN HONEY...that is an oxymoron! Honey comes from bees, and therefore cannot be vegan! They could mean cruelty free? but still, considering the love and tender care most bee farmers treat their bees with, cruelty free honey would be pretty darned hard to find. Maybe just use a substitute like corn syrop or some other vegan sugary stuff! Peace, Bliss. " It aint easy being green. " scottishwitch3 Wed, 27 Sep 2000 10:25:16 EDT two things > 1.
