Guest guest
Support Non-Animal Tests Source-PETA, but I added a little bit. Please forward to interested parties! A bill has been introduced in both the U.S. Senate (S. 1495) and the House(H.R. 4281), the ICCVAM Authorization Act, which would permanently establish the Interagency Coordinating Committee for the Validation of Alternative Methods (ICCVAM). This committee which reviews alternatives to animal tests and recommends changes in testing procedures to the appropriate federal regulatory agencies. ICCVAM needs congressional support to become a standing(permanent) committee. Contact your senators and representative and ask them to cosponsor S.1495/H.R. 4281. You can contact your legislators' offices by calling the Capitol Hill switchboard at 202-224-3121. Sample Letter Supporting S. 1495 Dear Senator: I am writing to ask that you co-sponsor S. 1495, the Inter-Agency Coordinating Committee for the Validation of Alternative Methods (ICCVAM) Authorization Act, introduced by Senator Mike DeWine (R-OH). This bill would permanently establish the ICCVAM as a standing committee under the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. ICCVAM will advise agencies to change their regulations, wherever possible, to incorporate the use of alternative, non-animal tests. Despite the astounding progress in the field of in vitro testing, federal agencies have continued to require or recommend antiquated, but generally accepted, animal tests. This unwillingness to embrace new, and more humane, technology has caused confusion for the regulated industries and frustration for small bio-tech companies researching, developing and manufacturing alternative test methods. The ICCVAM Authorization Act is supported by both animal protection groups and the consumer-products industry. I respectfully request that you co-sponsor this legislation, and help streamline the federal government's acceptance of more accurate and humane test methods. I look forward to hearing what action you will take on this issue. Sincerely, Sample Letter Supporting H.R. 4281 Dear Representative: I am writing to ask that you co-sponsor H.R. 4281, the Inter-Agency Coordinating Committee for the Validation of Alternative Methods (ICCVAM) Authorization Act, introduced by Representatives Tom Lantos (D-CA) and Ken Calvert (R-CA). This bill would permanently establish the ICCVAM as a standing committee under the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.
