Guest guest
OCTOBER - REVERENCE FOR LIFE MONTH A resolution passed during the 26th World Vegetarian Congress, held in Germany in 1982: Because: - billions of our fellow animals are abused and slaughtered each year for human consumption - millions of people die each year of chronic disease associated with consumption of animal flesh - our soil, water, forests and other vital and largely irreplaceable natural resources are being destroyed by the insatiable demands of agriculture - vegetarianism represents the only effective solution to these crucial problems that threaten our very existence - be it therefore resolved that the International Vegetarian Union proclaims that October of each year henceforth shall be known as Reverence for Life Month. [note: Many would now argue that veganism is the solution, with vegetarianism the major step. Perhaps the resolution will be discussed again in due course -ed.] October 1 - World Vegetarian Day October 2 - World Farm Animals Day - Anniversary of Gandhi's birth October 4 - The Feast of St.Francis of Assisi (the nearest Sunday to this is World Day of Prayer for Animals, this year Sunday October 1) October 15 - World Animal Rights Day October 15-21 - Feed the World Week October 16 - World Food Day October 24 - United Nations Day November 1 - World Vegan Day November 25 - International Meatless Day 35th World Vegetarian Congress, Edinburgh, Scotland - July 8-14, 2002 http://www.ivu.org/congress/2002 36th World Vegetarian Congress, Melbourne, Australia - 2004 http://www.ivu.org/congress/2004 -- Free email services provided by http://www.goodkarmacafe.com Powered by Outblaze
