Guest guest
ABC News Oct 22 2000 French authorities say a leading supermarket chain Carrefour has sold up to a tonne of beef which may be infected with mad cow disease or BSE. Four people have been arrested on charges of endangering public health. Carrefour says that all the meat has now been removed from the shelves. The meat came from 11 animals and was sold before a routine test revealed that one of the other cows in the same herd was infected with BSE. Prosectors have now called in the cattle trader, his wife and son for questioning as well as a farm worker. The trader faces a charge of selling goods that could endanger public health. The scare will add to the growing concern over the safety of French beef. A new series of tests has revealed a far greater number of French cattle are infected with BSE than previously thought. http://www.abc.net.au/news/newslink/weekly/newsnat-22oct2000-29.htm -- Free email services provided by http://www.goodkarmacafe.com Powered by Outblaze
