Guest guest
Shaun Gallagher <gallaghr philosop SIXTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON PERSONS Gaming, Austria August 7-12, 2001 The Sixth International Conference on Persons, organized by the International Forum on Persons, will be held in Gaming, Austria, August 7-12, 2001. The aim of the conference is to provide a forum for serious discussion and genuine conversation about what it means to be a person and the implications of taking personal categories seriously. The conference invites participation from scholars and thinkers in all disciplines and traditions. Relevant topics range from standard philosophical issues surrounding persons (personal identity, mind-body relations, other minds, etc.) to pressing contemporary issues raised by personhood (moral, social, pedagogical, legal, etc.), to historical and exegetical scholarship on the concept " person " (personalist philosophies, theological inquiries, assumptions made within the social sciences, etc.), to currently emerging perspectives on persons (feminist, Africanist, social constructivist, etc.). The conference is the sixth in a series of biannual conferences organized by the International Forum on Persons. Previous conferences held in the United Kingdom, United States, and the Czech Republic have seen the formation of an international community of scholars who share a commitment to exploring issues that confront persons in an age of increasing depersonalization, and who live and work in contexts that undermine the significance of the personal. As with past conferences, plans are being made to publish selected papers from the conference. CALL FOR PAPERS , ABSTRACTS, AND PROPOSALS Those interested in presenting their work or otherwise contributing to the conference should submit completed papers (of no more than 20 minutes presentation time), abstracts (500 word limit) of work-in-progress, or proposals (limited to one page) for panels or workshop sessions by MARCH 15.
