Guest guest
If Forced to Choose, More Americans Would Lose Sweet Tooth UTICA, N.Y. (Reuters/Zogby) - If forced to give up one food group forever, Americans would more likely eliminate sweets than any other food from their diet, according to a recent Zogby America survey. Of the 1,264 adults surveyed, 40.5% would be most likely to deny their sweet tooth. Salty foods, such as potato chips were the second group likely to be relinquished - chosen by 32.9% of respondents. Another 17.5% would be most willing give up meat to become vegetarians, and just 7.6% said they'd be likely to start following a carbohydrate-free diet. More ultraconservatives (42.2%) than progressives (38.5%) agreed that there is no substitute for a sugar high -- both would instead give up chips if necessary. Respondents over age 70 also would be more willing to quit salts than sugars - 36.4% vs. 31.6%. Half the male population would have the easiest time abstaining from sweets. Most women have learned they cannot ignore their chocolate cravings - 33.7% would rather give up salty foods. This poll has a margin of error of +/- 3.0%.
