Guest guest
Did y'all hear the announcement on the news today about RCMP dogs in certain detachments out here on the west coast in BC being given bullet/knife proof vests to wear? They are $1500 PER vest! The RCMP who work with the dogs say they (the dogs) are worth 10 times that! The SPCA donated this first batch. Hopefully all other K-9 units will follow suit for their K-9 officers ASAP. The human officers wear this type of protection, and those who work with the dogs are apparently much relieved and happy that their partners (the dogs) have them too now. These dogs often work the night shift, with their human partners, during which the danger of physical attack with weapons is high, so I think having this kind of gear really seems like basic equipment for them. The vests are made of Kevlar, and cover 80% of their bodies. Definitely, if dogs are used for law enforcement, I think they deserve AT LEAST the same protection as the humans. It shouldn't be optional anymore than it is for the humans. This issue hadn't occured to me before, but now that I know, I think it is time for all K-9 units to FIND THE FUNDS, SOMEWHERE, to obtain a vest for each and every K-9 officer on active duty. All in favour? Deborah
