Guest guest
NOTE: International Meatless Day -- November 25 -- is celebrated EVERYWHERE AROUND THE WORLD. The posting below is from Malaysia this year, which celebrates the breadth AND diversity of the celebration and publicity. While the terminology and names they present may be unfamiliar to us, please try to get YOUR public officials to sign proclamations that YOU prepare and give them for International Meatless Day, and to go meatless that day, November 25, the Friday AFTER Thanksgiving in the USA. - Maynard S. Tel/Fax: 6-04-2610126 1st November 2000 TO: ALL PEACE LOVING PEOPLE IN THE WORLD RE: JOIN THE INTERNATIONAL MEATLESS DAY CAMPAIGN ON NOVEMBER 25 The International Meatless Day Campaign was first started in India in 1986 by the Sadhu Vaswani Mission which a social service organisation dedicated to serving mankind especially the poor and downtrodden. Every year millions all over the world pledge to observe Nov.25 as a Meatless Day. Last year about 7 million people all over the world pledged to go meatless including 3000 from Malaysia. The campaign requires people to pledge to abstain from consuming all forms of meat, fish, fowl on this day. By not consuming meat, one practises reverence for life and this we believe is the first step towards world peace. It is hoped that this campaign will lead to an increased awareness of the benefits of a meatless diet. On Oct.29, this year, YB Dato Dr Fong Chan Onn, Federal Minister of Human Resources launched our campaign and become the first person in Malaysia (and also a first cabinet minister to take part in our campaign) to pledge to go Meatless on November 25 this year. At this ceremony, 54 employees of the Casuarina Beach Resort, Penang also presented their pledges to the Dato Dr. Fong. On November 19, 2000, the Right Honourable Chief Minister of Penang, Tan Sri Dr. Koh Tsu Koon will also pledge to go Meatless on November 25 together with many other Malaysians. We would like you to pledge to go Meatless on November 25, 2000. Those interested in placing their pledges can simply sign a written text that reads: " I hereby pledge to observe November 25th as a Meatless Day " and either Mail it to 51, Bishop Street, 10200 Penang Fax to 04-2610126 e-mail to MeatlessDay Pledge through our website at www.geocities.com/Meatlessday You can also pledge through www.sadhuvaswani.org or www.meatlessday.org You can HELP by passing this message to at least 10 of your friends by email. Let us strive to make this world a peaceful, loving and a caring place to live.
