Serious problems in some meat plants

 

Yet province rarely hands out tough penalties to offenders

Raw meat touching dirty countertops, animal carcasses sliced with rusty

equipment and unsanitized knives, handled by bacteria-laced hands, leaned

against dirty barrels and laid on slaughterhouse floors.

 

These are some of the disturbing scenes witnessed by inspectors in provincially

licensed meat plants that supply many small independent grocery stores, butcher

shops and restaurants.
