Guest guest
FILM REVIEW: '102 Dalmatians' begs: To pet or to wear? Updated 12:00 PM ET November 20, 2000 By Michelle Lee The Eagle American U. (U-WIRE) WASHINGTON -- In the animal rights community, there's a popular slogan: Which do you pet and which do you eat? Why? The " pet " refers to companion animals such as dogs and cats, who are loved and revered as individual personalities and even members of the family. The " eat " refers to cows, chickens, pigs, fish and other animals which are thought of as an end product (food) rather than as living beings. This dichotomy exists everywhere: the TV news runs a human-interest story about a poor puppy trapped in a well plays dozens of commercials advertising meat every hour; diners become enraged at rumors that a restaurant may be serving dog instead of beef -- and the same people that weep over the dogs' potential fate in " 102 Dalmatians " walk out of the theater in leather shoes and coats without even recognizing the Cruella De Vil-ness of their own behavior.
