Guest guest
Hunter shot in leg BY THE ASSOCIATED PRESS http://www.ohio.com/bj/news/ohio/docs/018341.htm A 19-year-old man accidentally shot his father in the leg while hunting Tuesday, a state wildlife officer said. It was at least the fourth accident, including one death, in the first two days of Ohio's weeklong deer-gun hunting season. The man shot at a deer but missed, and the slug hit his father, who was standing inside a shed, said Phil King of the Ohio Division of Wildlife. The two were hunting in Licking County in central Ohio. The father was treated and released from a hospital, King said. The men's names were not released. On Monday, William Jones, 67, of Grove City, was accidentally killed when a shot from a 17-year-old hunting partner passed through a deer and struck him in the abdomen, authorities said. Franklin County Sheriff Jim Karnes said the slug went through the deer's neck, through bushes and then between trees before striking Jones. He said those in the hunting party were wearing blaze orange. During last year's gun season, nine hunters were injured in accidental shootings and misfires. Five of the injuries were self-inflicted. Three hunters were killed during the season in 1998. King said the number of accidental shootings has decreased over the last 20 years since Ohio started requiring hunting education. But there will always be accidents during deer gun season, he said. ``You've got more hunters in the field over the six days than at any other time during the year,'' he said. ``The more hunters in the field, the risk increases.'' No charges had been filed Tuesday against a hunter who fired a shot that shattered a window of a house Monday in Medina County. Sylvia Herman, 63, was brushing her hair in front of the bathroom mirror when the slug from a shotgun came through the window and landed on the floor 3 inches behind her. Doug Miller, county wildlife officer, said the hunter did not realize the house was in his line of fire. Medina County sheriff's Sgt. Kevin English said the hunter should not have been carrying a gun because he is a felon. In Jefferson County in eastern Ohio, a 15-year-old boy hunting alone shot himself in the hand with a .410-gauge shotgun while hunting Monday morning, said Reno Reda, an Ohio Division of Wildlife officer for the region. State law bars juveniles from hunting without adult supervision, Reda said. The shooting was referred to the county prosecutor's office, which had not looked into the case Tuesday. -- Free email services provided by http://www.goodkarmacafe.com Powered by Outblaze
