URGENT: MOURNING DOVES IN PERIL IN MICHIGAN !

THE PROBLEM :

 

    Widely recognized as a symbol of peace, the mourning dove

has always been beloved and protected from hunting in the state of

Michigan. Now,

 

      Michigan's beautiful birds of peace are in peril of

becoming target practice for hunters!   In a last minute effort,

leadership successfully passed H.B. 6147 in the house of representatives

in a single day. The senate may vote on it EARLY THIS WEEK. This bill

will repeal the long-standing protection for doves in Michigan!

 

THE REASONS TO OPPOSE DOVE HUNTING ARE CLEAR :

 

        Dove hunting is inhumane: statistics show that

nearly 20% of doves shot by hunters are wounded and are not retrieved.

 

      The birds themselves are very small, yielding a morsel

of meat ---- hence, dove hunting amounts to nothing more than mere

target practice for hunters.

 

          There are already plenty of other game

bird species that are legally shot in Michigan; there is no defensible

reason to shoot these gentle, ground-feeding birds, which pose no threat

to agricultural crops.

Other federally protected birds, such as the American kestrel, are often

mistaken for doves at a distance, and will undoubtedly be shot by

hunters as well.

 

THE SOLUTION :

 

Please contact Michigan STATE SENATORS NOW and ask him or her to

              OPPOSE ANY BILLS WHICH WOULD

REPEAL

                THE BAN ON DOVE HUNTING

!!!

Michigan legislators NOW are the doves' last chance!
