It's the people who decide what to put on the family dinner table each evening. That's why the " Seven Sisters " recipe laden magazines are so important. The market leader, Better Homes & Gardens, has a whopping circulation of 7.6 million. That's an awful lot of dinners every month. Plus, the other magazines play follow the market leader. Thus the eating habits of America are both reflected on and driven by the pages of this magazine. The chefs amongst us will be interested to hear that Better Homes & Gardens tests and prints recipes from readers. The current category is for: " Sizzle and Spice Entrees: Put the emphasis on lively flavor in meat, poultry, and vegetarian main dishes with hot or mild chilies and other spices, such as anise, caraway, cardamom, horseradish, paprika, or mustard. " There is prize money, as well as the knowledge that a single vegan recipe in a magazine that goes out to 7 million mostly non-vegetarian homes, would indirectly save the lives of about 70,000 animals if used by only one percent of the magazine's readers just once, instead of, for example, chicken.
