Guest guest
I received this message from another list. I have written my email. Sharon Sally Jesse Raphael ********************************************** **************** M E S S A G E ******* ********************************************** Hey everyone- looks like it's time to write some more letters! Yesterday, the Sally Jesse Raphael show was giving out " Holiday Wishes " to the less fortunate....one of the " gifts " was a Cocker Spaniel puppy from a local store called " Puppy City " . Not only was the Sally Show setting a bad example by giving a dog as an " unexpected Christmas gift " especially to someone who may not have welcomed the additional financial responsibility, but the puppy came from a PET STORE. I wrote Sally a letter via their webpage (address listed below). I tried to be " nice " ....but frankly I can't believe someone who has been in the media industry for so long would be so ignorant of pet stores and puppy mills. I don't understand WHY she couldn't have gotten the pup from a shelter- at least it would have sent the message that adoption is a great way to find a pet. Anyways, I hope some of you will take the time to write her a letter- I do know that when the show recieves a massive response to something, they will usually address the concern on the show....so....get those letters going!!! Here is the website: http://www.sallyjr.com/sally3/comments.html Permission is given to cross-post....please get the message out to other lists you may be a member of! Guest guest
Hi Sharon; This is the message I sent. Hi Sally; I'm really glad to hear that you are making the effort to help out less fortunate families with your show. I think that is a very worthy way to use your exposure! At the same time, I think there are effective and less effective ways of doing that. For example, I understand that you presented a puppy to a less fortunate person recently on your show. Sally, if a family is hardly able to care for themselves, how can they be expected to care properly for another member? Pets can be very expensive to care for properly, and certainly consume emotional energy and time, as much as they are cute and fun. If you provide a pet for a less fortunate family in the future, please make sure that you also provide the endownment necessary for them to care for the pet properly, considering that it really is equivalent to adopting a child. Also, please avoid supporting traffic in living beings. Pet stores have terrible track records in their care of the animals they sell, and tend to support the horrors of Puppy Mills. Rather than giving an animal from a pet store, far better I think to get one from an animal shelter. This supports a worthy cause, provides a needy animal a home, and will look much better on you. Another advantage of shelter animals is that they usually are adopted already neutered/spayed. Pet store animals rarely are which requires the family to look after this often emotionally difficult and/or expensive operation. Keep up the good work Sally! Wishing you a happy holiday season...
