Guest guest
Imaner Consultants <consultants Monday, December 11, 2000 2:01 PM Vegan online panel results, Christmas 2000 NEWS RELEASE Imaner Consultants have today released the second set of results from the imaner.net online research panel. This virtually-vegan panel has once again produced the largest vegan survey ever published. If it's the thought that counts, then think hard when buying Christmas presents for a vegan! With 9 out of 10 vegans receiving non-vegan presents from people who know about their diet/ethics it's not surprising that almost half of vegans rank better product labeling as most important to them. Over a quarter of vegans (40% in the USA) find Christmas a particularly difficult time due to their diet. When buying presents for others, 45% of vegan panel members always buy vegan products and half (two-thirds in the US) are turning to the Internet for their present buying this Christmas. Of those vegans intending to buy online, 94% had made an online purchase in the past six months. The best vegan Christmas presents include items that many non-vegans take for granted, but which are raised to luxury status amongst vegans. Top of the present wish-list is animal-free footwear (mentioned by 21% of respondents) with clothes, chocolates, toiletries and recipe books all making the top ten. Two items that were mentioned by a total of 10% of the panel (and unlikely to make a non-vegan present list) were for the present giver to become vegan themselves or for a donation to an animal charity/adoption of a sanctuary animal. Underpinning the findings from the first survey, the results show that vegans and vegetarians are heavy Internet users and are more likely to buy online than the rest of the population - with 70% going online at least once a day and 75% having made an online purchase in the past six months. Of those who had never purchased online six months ago, over 40% had now made an Internet purchase. The imaner.net research panel consists of over 1200 panel members who have agreed to answer an online survey twice yearly about their lifestyle. 80% of the panel are vegan or nearly vegan. Established in 1997, Imaner Consultants specialize in website design and consulting for organizations that do not exploit animals, people or the environment.
