SAMPLE LETTER:

I am absolutely horrified to see photos on the internet of the dogs that

are tortured before being cooked in Korean restaurants. I ask you to

please do an expose on this issue immediately before this problem

ESCALATES further!

It is extremely horrifying to know that the world is supporting an event

such as World Cup in a country that not only uses dogs for food, but

that tortures them as well.

It seems as if Koreans don't know right from wrong. These unnecessary

and inhumane acts of cruelty are appalling to decent people around the

world and it is utterly surprising how Koreans can even think of eating

man's best friends. It seems that there is no place in the hearts of

Koreans to love and appreciate animals, especially dogs which are

suffering endlessly in the hands of butchers in slaughterhouses that are

senselessly littered unsparingly in Korea.

Is this the way Koreans return their " gratitude " to dogs, which are

loyal, trustworthy, reliable, resourceful, faithful, selfless plus many

other valued qualities that they possess? It is thus of utmost shame and

misfortune that Koreans are unable to recognize such valued qualities in

an animal that is one of the most treasured and loved in the world. It

is also very incredulous how Koreans can let their greed get the better

of them.

There is a huge growing segment of dog lovers that vowed they will not

purchase any Korea products, visit this country and support World Cup

2002. In fact, I am dogged to continue this should Korea go on with

these uncivilized and inhumane acts. I also find it absolutely

hypocritical that Korean manufactured products especially photo albums,

jigsaw puzzles, cards, stationary sets and many others often bear

pictures of puppies and dogs. I wonder what had been of them? I suppose

they were fattened up and consumed later?

Though, millions have pleaded for Koreans to stop this practice, the

citizens still persist in these horrendous practices. This goes to show

that the citizens of Korea do not care about their country's image and

this is disappointing. The world will know Korea as a cruel and backward

looking country. This would be tragic because we know that Korea has the

capacity to be a progressive and enlightened nation in the coming

century. In these fragmented and unpredictable times, dogs are becoming

increasingly important to people everywhere as pets and companions.

Please expose this terrible cruelty TODAY!

Sincerely,

SAMPLE LETTER:

Dear Sir/Madam,

Please use your unique position as sponsor of FIFA to apply pressure on

South Korea to stop the barbaric torture and eating of dogs and cats in

violation of its own laws.

Each year many dogs in South Korea are slowly beaten to death to

" tenderize "

their meat before they are eaten. They are often finished off by a

blowtorch

to remove the fur. Why? Because some Korean men believe that softened

dog

meat is a sexual aphrodisiac. These men believe that the softness of the

meat is increased if the dog is forced to release adrenalin by being

slaughtered under extreme fear.

While it is illegal to eat dog & cat meat in Korea, the government not

only

does not enforce the laws, but you can find a large variety of meals

featuring dog meat in the markets and can even pick your live dog, which

will be tortured and killed and prepared for you in a back room.

Torturing cats and dogs is not a " cultural matter. " It is the

responsibility

of all of us to stop brutality against innocent creatures. We are all

tainted by the cruelty when we turn a blind eye to this savagery. Please

do not encourage South Korea in its torture and killing of these cats

and dogs.

It is absolutely imperative that the Korea Animal Protection Act be

strengthened

and enforced immediately. Please use your influence to change South

Korea and stop these barbaric acts. You are in a unique position to

apply pressure on South Korea to change this horrible daily torture and

murder of companion animals. It does no good for your image to hold a

prestigious world championship in a place such as this.

I for one, will not buy any products made or sold by any of the sponsors

of

The World Cup if it is held in South Korea, without these laws being

enforced. I will also inform all that I can of the atrocities condoned

by FIFA and its sponsors, if you do not take a stand on this issue.

Sincerely,

SAMPLE LETTER:

President Kim Dae Jung:

I am writing to you about the atrocities taking place in Korea. Cats and

dogs

are being tortured and killed on a daily basis. This has gone on long

enough

and MUST come to an end. People throughout the world are aware of this

situation and will not tolerate these extreme cases of animal abuse

which are

allowed to take place in Korea.

I demand that you enforce South Koreans' own " Animal Protection Act And

Related Law " enacted May 7th, 1991. Until this is done I will continue

to boycott all products from Korea and encourage as many people as I can

to do

the same. I will also encourage a boycott of the World Cup 2002.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

This is an eyewitness account from the Korean Animal Protection Society

(KAPS). Once again, I am sorry to have to share it, but we must know the

horror these dogs are facing if we are to help in stopping the practice.

WARNING: " After the dog is hung by its neck it is tenderized by beating

it for up to an hour or more. Bruised and bleeding the dog is then

lowered to

the ground and finished off with a blowtorch to remove his or her fur.

The

dogs, often still alive, scream and cry in agony and pain, urinating and

defecating while gripped in the throes of unimaginable horror. "
