UVM researchers help produce genetically engineered cow

January 11, 2001

MONTPELIER, Vermont (AP) -- Researchers at the University of Vermont have helped

clone a cow that could be resistant to mastitis, a discovery that could one day

save the dairy industry billions of dollars.

UVM researchers cloned a gene that kills the bacteria that causes certain forms

of mastitis -- a disease that inflames the mammary gland.
