Guest guest
ANIMAL RIGHTS ACTIVISTS HOUND DEALERS IN ANIMAL SKINS Groups vow to pursue any companies promoting the fur-trade. For immediate release: Wednesday 24th of January, 2001 Limerick, 23rd of Jan.: Having picketed Barnardo Furriers and Rohu Furs in Dublin city the previous day, members of the recently established Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade (CAFT-Ireland) teamed up with activists from the Limerick-based Animal Rights Action Network (ARAN) yesterday, to protest against Ryan's Hotel and their shameful involvement in the fur trade. Through research we discovered that Ryan's Hotel of Limerick had reserved rooms for Caroline Barnardo, the Company of Dublin's Barnardo Furriers and Rohu Furs to model and promote her clothing. With little patience for either Barnardo's or Ryan's policy on the slaughter of 30 million fur-bearing animal every year, a dozen or so activists (from both groups) gathered outside the hotel to demonstrate. At 6:30, four activists entered the building, bearing banners and chanting " Fur is Dead " . Passing reception and small crowds of idle drink-sippers we marched about the display rooms while unsuspecting customers gaped in total shock. We were then forcefully removed by security, but managed to release stink-bombs into the corridors. Twenty minutes later, we entered again, shouting " Fur Shame " until the police arrived. By then, the pungent stink bombs still remained heavy in the air. Throughout the day we also held a phone blockade of both Barnardo's and Ryan's establishments, with activists from Ireland and England ringing- in to express their disgust. " Demonstrating outside fur shops is only a minute aspect of our entire campaign against the fur trade. We will hound down any establishment which profits from the furriers, and it now seems unlikely that Ryan Hotel will hold any more fur shows. If, however they - or any others do so - we shall be there with them, and with no shortage of tactics. " states CAFT Press Officer Robert O'Maoilbhreannan. Another CAFT protest is planned for Friday outside Bardnaro Furriers and Rohu Furs. Photographs and additional information available on request. CAFT Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade P.O.
