Guest guest
I received this from another list. The WLFA, a pro-hunting organization is calling upon hunters to contact Governor Tom Vilsack stating, among other things, that he is listening to out-of-state " extremists " . (http://www.wlfa.org/interactive/features/Read.cfm?ID=416) Please contact Governor Vilsack to give a fitting reply. Contact information: Web: http://www.state.ia.us/governor/comments/capitol_correspond/index.html Phone: (515)281-5211 Fax: (515)281-6611 Points: Firstly, thank Governor Vilsack for pledging to veto the bill to hunt doves (HF 43). Other points that can be mentioned are: 1. Polling data from Mason-Dixon Polling & Research indicates that a overwhelming majority of Iowans are opposed to establishment of a mourning dove hunting season. According to the poll, 56 % of Iowans opposed dove-hunting, 21 % favored hunting and 23 % were undecided. 2. Iowa legislators caved in to hunting extremists from other states who do not have the best interests of Iowa in mind. 3. Dove hunting is inhumane. 20 to 30 % of the doves shot by hunters are left to die excrutiatingly painful deaths. 4. Dove hunting is mainly for target practice which can be done using clay targets. 5. Doves do not cause any problems and help farmers by eating weed seeds. 6. Federally protected birds such as the American kestrel will be mistakenly shot if a hunting season for doves is established. 7. Doves are regarded as a symbol of peace all over the world which makes it extremely inappropriate to kill them.
