Candidate will work closely with the National of the Program. Candidates should have a strong interest in leadership and implementation of a nationally recognized public health nutrition education program, with an emphasis on strengthening interagency partnerships (federal and state) and establishing new collaborative public health initiatives that are evidence-based. This full-time position is a two year Title 42 appointment, with option for renewal. The 5 A Day Program is a nationwide campaign to increase consumption of fruits and vegetables to 5 or more servings a day to improve health of all Americans through partnerships among the health community, government agencies, the fruit and vegetable industry, and other private sectors. The program is jointly sponsored by the NCI in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Produce for Better Health Foundation, a nonprofit consumer education foundation representing the fruit and vegetable industry. The 5 A Day Program is intended to significantly impact the public's awareness, knowledge, and behavior concerning nutrition, public health policy, Healthy People 2010 nutrition objectives, and the health of the nation. Applicants with a minimum of Master's level training (MPH, MS or equivalent) and substantial experience in nutrition and public health program management are being sought. Registered Dietitian status is preferred. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required for work in this collaborative, challenging, and highly visible interdisciplinary setting. The qualified applicant must be a strong manager and will serve with the National 5 A Day Director as NCI representatives when facilitating interdisciplinary collaborations with private foundations, the fruit and vegetable industry, federal agencies, and other NIH institutes who participate in the 5 A Day Program's extensive public-private partnership. Previous experience in federal, state or local public health programs is desirable. The location is Bethesda, Maryland, close to Washington, D.C. Salaries are very competitive and commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits are provided. Some travel involved.
