Guest guest
Hello beautiful people! Its been a long time since the Guidelines were posted...so, here is a part of an email sent a while ago by Anji with the guidelines included. It will help to keep us on track and keep members happy! Peace, Bliss. Okay... listen-up groovy people. It seems that the number of members of this list doubled in a very short amount of time, and it also seems that we are experiencing some growing pains as a result. But do not fret! I have been on many large mailing lists and the small problems we're having here are not unique. No matter how much I want the list to be perfect and no matter how many times I post the guidelines there is still going to be the odd off-topic post, offensive remark, and irrelevant chit chat. Here are my recommendations: 1) hit delete. 2) trust that I will take care of it should it appear to be getting out of hand. 3) email me OFF-LIST if you would like to express a concern or complaint and I will deal with the other person OFF-LIST. Complaints about certain posts are best kept off-list because what happens is we end up starting long off-topic threads and giving undeserved attention to posts that could have just been ignored. Flames, harrassment and otherwise offensive posts will be dealt with accordingly... by me... off-list.. trust me. For example, the offensive post about fat women was dealt with... by me... off-list, immediately. But now we have an entire thread going on about weight issues. It's not like I don't agree that it was wrong and inappropriate, but no matter ! how much I sympathise, this is not a list about weight issues and I don't want to alienate those who joined the list to discuss animal rights and veganism. Bottom line is, we have about 70 different personalities here and - everybody can't be happy about everything all the time. BUT if we all cooperate and do our best to follow the guidelines we will have an interesting, useful, inspiring, kick-ass mailing list. OKAY?! So please, before I lose any more valued members... here are the guidelines once again: ---> Please try to stay on topic. The list is for sharing thoughts, ideas, questions, recipes, news, events etc. relating to animal rights and veganism. Veganism can be a broad topic and it sometimes seems that it relates to everything, however I'd like to keep it as close as possible to the " big three " vegan topics - ethics, health, and environment. ---> We share this list with approximately 70-100 other rs who are here to talk about animal rights and veganism. Take a moment to think about your post. Is it something list members would be interested in, or would it be best to send your post privately? Comments like " cool " , or " thank you " , or " that sucks " are better off sent to the person intended to read them. It would be nice to keep the list as streamlined as possible. ---> When replying to a post, please, please trim your emails. Re-send a few summarizing lines of the original message so the reader will know immediately what you are talking about. Do not re-send the entire original message, especially if it is long, as it might be unwanted by the receiver and an unnecessary burden for many servers. This means delete everything you are not responding to, including especially all that extra stuff that Onelist includes at the bottom. ---> Make subject lines descriptive. People should get an idea of your message from glancing at the subject line. " Hi " is not as good as, " Consumer Reports Finds 71% of Store-Bought Chicken Contains Harmful Bacteria " , for example. ---> As a courtesy please do not send: chain letters, virus warnings, hoaxes, urban legends, attachments, flames or harassment, off-topic advertising messages etc. Now, let's get back to what we're all here for - animal liberation now!
