We have a fairly active anti-McDonald's movement over here - I have a neat little rubber stamp " Meat is Murder " with the " M " just like Mcdonald's which allows me to leave the message wherever I choose (usually on envelopes - free publicity!). The closest I ever came to being arrested (and I was in fact utterly innocent, honest!) was after a Huntingdon demo, when we were all on our way back to our coaches. The vehicles had parked in a motorway service area where there was a branch of McDonald's - surprise surprise - the damn things are everywhere. Some of our more rumbustious fellow-protesters had taken exception to this and had shown their disapproval by inserting a brick into the premises via a closed window. This was round the side of the building, so we could not see it and had no idea that it had happened. We were just innocently walking across the forecourt when a policeman pounced and verbally laid into us, accusing us of terrorising children. We were amazed - I was quite flattered that anyone could consider me capable of terrorising anyone. At 5 feet 2 inches I'd have a hard time. We protested our innocence, whereupon he denied having accused us and instead blamed our " so-called friends " - a phrase he was to repeat several times. He did not show himself in a good light and I can only guess as the impotent fury which impelled him to have a go at two 40 - odd (very odd) year old women. I wish you nothing but the best for your demo's. We did leaflet outside McDeath's in Chichester just before Christmas, which is fairly traumatic as it is a county town - lots of farmers, landowners, hunters, that sort of scum. We don't bother with the McD's in Bognor - most of my fellow townspeople probably eat their own young anyway, so are unlikely to be very receptive. I'll be thinking of you.
