Guest guest
I haven't seen this commercial (I don't watch TV) but, here's my opinion anyway. The real makers of the movie probably have stronger convictions than the producers or distributors who would hold the marketing rights and only be interested in making money. I think this happened to " Babe " as well, so one should hope that anyone making a pro-animal rights movie would provision in their contracts that the film must not be used to sell meat. If this has happened twice now, then it would appear that the meat industry has an interest in diffusing the anti-meat message of the movie, and the fast food industry can accomplish that with kids by selling them the anti-meat culture's toys and merchandise with the meat. Chicken Run is animated fiction like Pokemon and X-Men and all of that, and while part of it relates to the real world, other parts are pure fantasy (talking chickens etc). By marketing Chicken Run, MacDonalds would be effectively dismissing the anti-meat messages (like the suffering of egg-laying chickens) in the movie as the fantasy part of kids' culture. My favorite quote from the Chicken Run is where the main character, Ginger, is explaining that their eggs are taken and then when they stop laying, they are killed - she proclaims to the unsympathetic visiting rooster: " What part of 'THEY KILL US' do you not understand? " . I think that's an important message for people who consume dairy and eggs.
