Does anyone have any suggestions on how to approach this? I have intentions to arm myself with literature and meet with the teacher and Principle but I would love any additional help as well as to hear from anyone who may have had the same issue! Thank you! Guest guest
Hi Christy; As it was a health class, I think Dr. John McDougall's stuff www.drmcdougall.com and the Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine www.PCRM.org are the two best sources of which I have heard. The books by McDougall and Barnard are available in most libraries I think, and I would say may be the best collections of research on the topic at this time. I write science articles on low-fat veganism, if I can help personally. I have a B.Sc. That kind of credential can carry weigh in situaions like these, I have found. I have a number written, although all that I have at the moment are on very specific topics. I am thinking that at this stage, you will be requiring very general stuff. But, if you would like me to pitch in in any way, please let me know! :-) I had to deal with this sort of thing when my daughter entered kindergarten, over 10 years ago. The health nurse got on our case, and put me through 3 weeks of an inquisition. It was tough, but we won her approval in the end! So it CAN be done!! Here's rooting for you... Guest guest
Here are some good articles by various doctors including Dr. Spock and Dr. Attwood: http://www.newcenturynutrition.com/public_html/webzine/archives/childhood.shtml This one is good too: When Vegetarian Families Encounter the Law http://www.newcenturynutrition.com/public_html/webzine/archives/when_vegetarian.\ shtml " Peter Hromadko, a single parent, was shocked to learn that his daughter would not be coming home that evening; the state was taking her because she was being raised on a vegetarian diet. Or are you writing a book perhaps? I would love to read the articles. I have converted my MD fiance into an almost vegan. He practices alternative medicine primarily and is heavily into nutrition, consulting on fitness and nutrition but he still has clients who use dairy in their supplements and products. Namely whey. Seems like whey gets into everything! I don't know of any supplement company related to athletics that doesn't. I don't care for any of it actually. Anyway, I am still trying to get an appointment with the principle and teacher at this point. I want to give a talk on MEatout day. Thanks for the support!
