Norway Against Fur

The Scandinavian countries (Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway) produce over

half the worlds mink skins, and 80% of the worlds fox skins. But Sweden has a

booming anti fur movement and legislation just went into effect that closed all

of the fox farms in that country.

 

Now Norway is seeing progress on this issue.

 

An animal rights organisation in Norway, named NOAH, has carried out a poll

showing that the majority of Norwegians are against fur farming.

 

According to NOAH this poll shows that 76 per cent of the participants have an

opinion about fur farming and that 73 per cent of those are against fur farming.

The question weather fur farming should be banned or not has turned into a

political question in Norway, and efforts in order to ban fur farming are being

made in several political parties.

 

In other European news, the major department store called C & A has closed their

36 fur departments.

 

The UK recently banned fur farming, and Holland is close to passing a ban as

well. Holland has already banned fox and chinchilla farming.

 

Fur sales are down in Western Europe.

 

Unfortunately, fur sales are up in the US. While a majority of Americans

believe it is wrong to kill animals for fur, the booming economy and support

from the fashion industry has helped those who do not care about animals to

embrace fur.

 

It is important that people with a conscience organize and prepare for a large

scale campaign to educate people during the next fall/winter season.

 

Now is the time to get organized, raise money, and develop a campaign plan.
