Guest guest
Inevitably, when presented with moral questions, we as a society turn to the 'guru du jour' for answers. And that is such a large part of the problem. We tell ourselves that whoever uses the most technical jargon, or has the greatest number of ivy league degrees after their name, must be right; so let's follow them. This is a cop-out. It is a dismissal of our personal responsibility, and an abandonment of those most affected by the issue. The answers to the most pressing questions we face will not come from gurus; nor will they be found in a textbook, or a laboratory. The answers are right here- in our hearts. Yours, and mine. We can bury an issue in legalism, and smother it in theoretical conjecture, all we want; but it will not absolve us one iota of our responsibility, nor relieve us of the consequences. The time has come to think, feel, decide, and act, for ourselves. Our gurus have failed us, for the simple reason that there are no gurus; we only imagine that certain people have access to moral understanding which we do not. It is an illusion; it is a lie. When we are in the process of desperately trying to avoid a conclusion which is staring us in the face, we seek to dilute the truth by characterizing the issue as 'complicated'; and the more we complicate it, the easier it is to throw up our hands and declare it unsolvable. There is nothing complicated about abortion; if life is sacred, then life is sacred. If not, then let's all go home and shoot ourselves, because nothing we do here will make any difference anyway. Are there difficult issues surrounding abortion? Of course there are, nor would I ever minimize them. But life is full of difficulty; we cannot turn away from what is right simply because it is difficult. If you think things are difficult now, you better hang on tight, folks, because the years directly ahead of us are going to blow your minds. Personally, I have been through so much, and fought so hard; at this point, I understand that life is only worth living if it is lived with dignity and courage. Courage, that is, to face the truth and act upon it. Convenience is so very cold and hollow; it leaves you barren in the end. Peace and Blessings, Love and Light, Robyn Unicorn Thunderchild.
