" ************************************ News release from the Fur Council: FurWorks Canada's success confirms that designer's craze for fur has become a strong street trend (Montreal, February 12, 2001) --- The successful launch of FurWorks Canada, an innovative concept of sportswear in fur coordinated by the Fur Council of Canada, shows that fur's popularity with top-name designers has crossed over to mainstream fashion and is now a key " street " trend. Developed by leading Canadian designers under the artistic direction of Richard H., a renowned fashion consultant and trend forecaster, FurWorks Canada's first test collection for Winter 2000 was presented at the Fashion Coterie in New York and at the Montreal NAFFEM and was featured at Galeries Lafayette in Paris. It is presently available in fur salons and ready-to-wear boutiques across North America. " Sales during the Winter 2000 season were outstanding for a first-time collection, surpassing all expectations, " said Betty Balaila of Zuki Internationale, one of the participating designers. " This new concept of fashion-forward sporty basics is ideally suited to the casual tone of today's wardrobe, " Balaila continued. FurWorks Canada was designed to evaluate the potential of fur, dressed down in casual, practical ways to achieve a sportswear in fur concept that would target the ready-to-wear retail sector. " Glamour and luxury are defined in different ways by each new generation. While full-on glamour furs are now very much in style, fur had to also take a more casual route to appeal to the consumer that has a more relaxed way of dressing, " said Richard H. " I see fur as an integral element of fashion and not solely a component of the luxury goods industry. With FurWorks, we translated key sportswear fashion trends into fur, downplaying its sumptuousness and giving it a more relaxed sophistication. The result is a more discreet approach to fur that has a luxurious edge laced with lots of 'street' attitude. " The FurWorks Canada collections for Winter 2001 cross sexy urbanity with the easy side of sportswear. Soft, wearable and extremely lightweight furs, that feature the newest colour and shearing treatments, come in a wide array of sporty styles for three distinct market segments. For high-end retailers, the Luxe collections feature cutting-edge sportswear that emphasizes refinement and elegance, by: Antonio Proietti International by Nadya Toto, Yukon Furs and Zuki. New Couture is a minimalistic interpretation of functional and sophisticated casual wear for the boutique and bridge market, by: Bod & Crisan Outerwear by Minos, Dino Gaspari, Furko Canada by Theo and Hilary Radley. Urban Chic is trendy furs with a definitive street look for a wider consumer base, by: Krio by Natural Furs International, Musi, Paula Lishman and Trinity Furs. The FurWorks Canada collections for Winter 2001 will be presented at the Fashion Coterie in New York (Feb. 18 - 20), at MiFur in Milan (March 14 -18) and at the Montreal NAFFEM (May 6 -9).
