Guest guest
It seems like there are a lot of teenage pregnant mothers with unwanted children. All I have to say to that is, " DON'T HAVE SEX! " If you're not ready for the responsibility, don't do it. But people are so obsessed with enjoying themselves that they lose sight of the big picture. Because of their selfishness and recklessness, they end up taking the life of a child because they're not " ready " . But, of course, they were ready to have sex. I'm only speaking in the case of two willing partners (not of rape). Why can't people just use their intelligence? Why can't people see the consequences of their idiocies? Is it my imagination or is the cause of most suffering because of our vanity and selfishness? Theresa
Guest guest
Telling Teenagers NOT TO HAVE SEX?? Yeah, like, that's gonna work really well. Telling teenagers not to have sex. Yeah, right. Some really FUNNY stats: US is one of the few civilized countries in the world that likes to preach abstinence only, yet rates of teen pregnancy are ICREDIBLY high, especially compared to nordic countries like sweden, where they aren't afraid to talk to teens about anything, including anal sex, oral sex, sexual preference yadda yadda. Their message is: " Have sex. wait for the right person and use a condom " , whereas in the US the message is: " don't have sex. sex is irresponsible. sex is bad. wait til you're married " . Funny thing is, sweden has the LOWEST rates of teen pregnancy and HIV/AIDS in the ENTIRE WORLD. *beep* Reality check alert. -Belle _______________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Guest guest
Having lived in Sweden for a long period of time, I can tell you that there are quite a few factors at play besides the nature of the 'sex-talk' that parents give their children. Having said that, there is no question that teenagers are by nature rebellious and inquisitive; that does not absolve parents of the responsibility to provide guidance. A difficult task does not justify surrender. Guest guest
I ask that this topic desist if it has nothing to do with veganism or animal rights and it seems to have headed that way. It is only fair to the other 135 or so people on the list who didn't sign up to debate abortion. Thanks for everyone's understanding. anji > I will make this my last statement on the subject on this list, since 1) it > seems we are being asked to desist
Guest guest
It actually has EVERYTHING to do with veganism and animal rights, as I have explained very clearly. I can't imagine how anyone could have read my comments and failed to understand that. But then, we hear what we want to hear. As I said, I have made my last statement out of respect for your request. I may or may not continue my subscription to this list; it is questionable whether there is value in a forum which shrinks from the most difficult- and most pertinent- issues before us. As the saying goes, " The moment you turn your back, you are involved. " Respect for life is the very cornerstone of veganism and animal rights. Take that away, and we are rendered impotent, our arguments specious. Guest guest
Telling teenagers not to have sex...it's just common sense. But unfortunately most people are to short-sighted and weak to do the right thing. And because of that babies are and will continue to die. I'm not living in some sort of world of denial. I know that the rates are high...I think you misunderstood what I said. theresa
