Guest guest
Animal rights group calls on Christians Meatless Fridays campaign motivates push for vegan life They've made headlines for preferring to be naked rather than wear fur, protesting the slaughter of a pig by White Lake resident Michael Skupin on Survivor and other acts some call radical. Now, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is targeting Christians to become vegetarians, thanks to Cardinal Adam Maida, leader of Metro Detroit's 1.5 million Catholics. PETA got the idea for its campaign after Maida introduced a resolution at the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops three years ago, reaffirming meatless Fridays for Catholics. Only a few days have passed since the beginning of Lent, a season when many Catholics forgo meat for the entire 40 days or just on Fridays. PETA is hoping that Catholics and other Christians will recognize that Jesus was the prince of peace, " not a bloody butcher, " and will give up meat for good. http://detnews.com/2001/religion/0103/17/c01-195136.htm
Guest guest
By the way, there's a survey at that page asking: Do you think Christians should shun meat? So far - yes 45%, no 55% > http://detnews.com/2001/religion/0103/17/c01-195136.htm
