Guest guest
The web of life in Alaska is under assault by massive corporate fishing fleets. Your help is needed to stop declines, some as great as 90%, in many populations of sea otters, sea birds, seals, sea lions and other wildlife that depend on abundant fish populations. Healthy Alaska oceans are critical to supporting biodiversity, cultural and traditional food needs of Alaska Native Peoples, and community-based sustainable fisheries. To take action or get more information on this situation and to find out what you can do, please visit www.AlaskaOceans.NET In the coastal areas and seas of Alaska, dozens of species of fish and wildlife are in serious decline and some are nearing extinction. Here are some examples: Steller Sea Lion: Almost a 90% decline in western Alaska since the 1970s; listed as endangered under the Endangered Species Act. Sea Otter: 90% decline in the Aleutians during the 1990s. Bering Sea Spectacled Eider: 90% decline since the 1970s; listed as endangered under the Endangered Species Act.
