Guest guest
Hey what's up with this? All I've heard about soy has been good except for these articles. Alyssa Newest Research On Why You Should Avoid Soy - by Sally Fallon & Mary G. Enig, Ph.D. - What was once a minor crop, listed in the 1913 US Department of Agriculture (USDA) handbook not as a food but as an industrial product, now covers 72 million acres of American farmland. Soy May Cause Cancer and Brain Damage - Two senior US government scientists have revealed that chemicals in soy could increase the risk of breast cancer in women, brain damage in both men and women, and abnormalities in infants. The Trouble With Tofu: Soy and the Brain -by John D. MacArthur - " Tofu Shrinks Brain! " Not a science fiction scenario, this sobering soybean revelation is for real. But how did the " poster bean " of the '90s go wrong? Apparently, in many ways — none of which bode well for the brain. Soy: Too Good to be True - by Brandon Finucan & Charlotte Gerson - While even in 1966 there was considerable research on the harmful substances within soybeans, you'll be hard pressed to find articles today that claim soy is anything short of a miracle-food. As soy gains more and more popularity through industry advertising, we are moved once again to raise our voice of concern. http://www.mercola.com/article/soy/index.htm Get email at your own domain with Mail. http://personal.mail./

Guest guest
I just did. I also came across an article in my local newspaper. Puberty Too Soon http://www.azcentral.com/health/0416puberty16.html I'm worried now that It's not benefitting my daughter (or my son for that matter) by drinking only soy milk. Our family hasn't drank cow's milk since 1999. I guess you can find articles on both sides of the spectrums but I'm trying to do what is healthiest for my family. --- Deborah Pageau <Deborah_Pageau wrote: > Have you had a look at www.soyonlineservice.co.nz? > > Deborah > > > >Hey what's up with this? Guest guest
One thing that struck me regarding the info on that website was that EVERY article about soy was extremely negative...Just a look at the title of each of the articles at the link below would indicate this is the case. http://www.mercola.com/article/soy/index.htm But there is such a wealth of evidence elsewhere about the positive effects of soy that it is too hard for me to beleive that the person behind the site ( " Dr " Mercola) is unprejudiced. It looks like a carefully orchestrated campaign against soy to me ( " carefully " 'coz there are a couple of articles against milk too). And then there's this article titled " confessions of a former vegan " which would have us beleive that there is no way one could survive without animal fat (entirely from a health perspective, nothing to do about socializing)- http://www.mercola.com/article/Diet/former_vegan.htm Recently (11/00), there was a piece on CNN that mentioned how soy intake can lower bad cholesterol and reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, and this was based on a review of SEVERAL clinical studies by the American Heart Association! http://www.cnn.com/2000/HEALTH/mayo/11/17/soy.cholesterol/index.html Another recent positive article about soy (for men) on ABCNEWS: http://abcnews.go.com/sections/living/MensHealth/menshealth_15.html Srikanth , Alyssa <alyssa71> wrote: > Hey what's up with this? Guest guest
Hi Alyssa; Congratulations on getting off cow's milk! I think you are very WISE to avoid giving cow's milk to your children! I think giving them cow's milk would be MUCH worse! I think any material in favour of cow's milk is likely to be funded by the Dairy Marketing Board! The thing I would ask is why would anything other than human milk be appropriate for human children? And, if they are past the age of weaning, why would you bother about milk at all? Sure, it's convenient for on cereal and in sauces, but why drink it? Milk is supposed to be the first food of mammalian infants only. Once they are able to eat enough solid food, they are weaned, and then they finish growing up on the solid diet of the specie. We haven't had milk in my family since about 1984. My daughter grew up from toddlerhood after weaning without any kind of milk, only a healthy low-fat vegan diet and she's 17 now. I think that really is the NORMAL thing to do, even if the COMMON thing is to drink milk passed the age of weaning! :-) Being sick a lot of the time is COMMON too... I think there's a connection! :-) Have you read what the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine people say about cow's milk? www.pcrm.org. You can search for cow's milk on their site, and it will turn up all many articles in support of avoiding it. I think you are definitely making the right decision by avoiding it. Wishing you and your family health, happiness and prosperity... Guest guest
Hi! I've read lots of articles in regards to the negativity of cow's milk which is what prompted my family to stop drinking it. I was just in shock when I stumbled across this site. Mainly I hear such positive stuff about Soy. There is several reasons why we chose to stop eating meat and drinking milk---the animals, our health but one determining factor for it was that I don't want to accelerate my little girl's puberty. Now I'm reading that soy can accelerate puberty. I always read that it was hormones in meat or cow's milk and that is why we avoid them. I do give my children soy or rice milk because I want them to get their calcium as well as nutrients they may not get otherwise. Thanks everyone to responding to my concerns.
