When we eat in restaurants, and at home, we take the safety and cleanliness

of our food for granted. Perhaps we shouldn't: An estimated 350 thousand

Americans each year are hospitalized for food poisoning.

In this A & E/New York Times investigation, IR: The Danger On Our Plates

explores alarming stories of deadly outbreaks of food poisoning. It examines

the spread of the e-coli bacteria in meat, and how difficult it is to trace

the source of these infections. We'll meet victims of food poisoning

outbreaks - including the famous 1992 " Jack in the Box " incident - and talk

with public health officials, meat industry spokesmen and consumer advocates

about what can be done to make sure our food is safe.
