British health department probes worker at slaughterhouse

LONDON, April 23 — Just as Britain was hoping to turn a corner in its

battle against the foot-and-mouth virus that has devastated the

country's livestock and battered its tourism industry, health

officials reported Monday that the disease may have spread to a

worker at a slaughter house in northern England.
