The underground activists give their reasons for targeting the Cornell University Duck Laboratory on Sat. April 28, and have refuted Cornell researchers' claims that the ducks are in any danger in the hands of animal activists. The sharply-worded letter explains clearly that the activists opposed the research because the end result was to " allow farmers to have a quicker growth rate of their ducks and allow their ducks to survive even further torture under smaller confines of battery farming. " " The ALF are opposed to factory farming of all animals, and any industry-related research is only meant to further increase profits at the expense of animal suffering, " comments David Barbarash, ALF spokesperson. Indeed, the Communique affirms the activsts' intentions to level a " damaging blow " against the duck farming industry. They further state that the ducks have been brought to a sanctuary in another part of the country, where they can live their lives " in peace and serenity. " The following is the text of the Communique: " Communique for 4/28 Lab Raid Cornell Duck Research Facility On the evening of Saturday, April 28th Animal Liberation Front activists liberated 232 3-month old ducklings from the Cornell Duck research Laboratory located on Old Country Road in Westhampton, Long Island. The action served to both liberate these beautiful creatures from exploitation, abuse and terror, and to provide a damaging blow to factory duck farming industries. The Cornell University Duck Laboratory works to provide vaccines, hormones, and supplement technology to factory farmers in order to maximize their profits. This research will allow farmers to have a quicker growth rate of their ducks and allow their ducks to survive even further torture under smaller confines of battery farming. This research is not " pro-animal " it rather maximizes profits for an industry of animal murder, animal exploitation, environmental degradation, and greed. To rebut the ludicrous claims made by the lab, all ducks were brought cross-country to a sanctuary where they will live their lives on many acres in peace and serenity, with the care of veterinarians, ample food, and most of all, free of fear of violence and murder.
