PLEASE COME AND BE A VOICE FOR THE ANIMALS. -- Intel Brings Animal Cruelty To Town Local Groups to Protest on May 6 More than thirty years ago, in response to a storm of public outrage over the blinding of sparrows, Westinghouse changed the rules of its prestigious science talent competition to prohibit youngsters from performing experiments on live vertebrate animals. And today, the rules of the Siemens Westinghouse science and technology competition for high school seniors also bar projects involving experiments on vertebrate animals. But the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), continues to allow high school students of all ages to perform invasive experiments on animals. This includes injecting them with toxic substances and other harmful chemicals, exposing them to radiation, performing surgery, depriving them of food, and having them killed. According to Professor Peter Singer, President of Animal Rights International and the author of Animal Liberation, ³the continuing sponsorship by Intel of cruel animal experiments promotes a culture of callousness among our youth without any demonstrable benefit to science.² The enclosed ad, produced by New York based Animal Rights International, has been run nation-wide and abroad by a number of organizations eliciting outraged response from thousands of readers. But in spite of on-going efforts to persuade INTEL to change the ISEF rules and ensure that no vertebrate animal is hurt, INTEL refuses to do so! ESAR (Engineers and Scientist for Animal Rights) and In Defense of Animals (IDA) a California animal protection organization based in Mill Valley plans to hold a demonstration Sunday May 6 to draw public attention to Intel¹s disregard of broad public sentiment over animal cruelty. The protest will take place at noon at the Tech Museum, 201 S. Market St in down town San Jose. Further details about the demonstration can be obtained from Alfredo Kuba, of South Bay IDA, Mountain View, California at (650) 965-8705 or sbida Auctions - buy the things you want at great prices http://auctions./
