Guest guest
Forwarded Message END TO ANIMAL RESEARCH http://caat.jhsph.edu/programs/workshops/testsmart/pharm-info.htm Is there a " NEED " for live animal research? Having once run a lab, and having operated on laboratory animals, I have more than the average lay person's understanding of all related animal experiment issues. My understanding is that science has delivered tools that can adequately replace animal research---forever. From a scientist's viewpoint, those tools better predict human safety evaluation questions than do animal models. The conference is sponsored by Huntingdon Life Sciences, Schering-Plough Research Institute, Bristol-Meyers Squibb Company, 3M, and Taconic Farms, Inc. My SATYA article will be based upon the following topics: Requirements For Safety Evaluation Of Pharmaceuticals What Do We Need To Know? How Do We Obtain The Information Today? Approaches To Reducing Animal Use Center for Drug Evaluation and Research Use of Cellular and Molecular Models Use of Alternative Models for Assessment of Carcinogenic Potential Non-Invasive Approaches--Eliminating Pain And Distress Computational Toxicology And Knowledge Bases Building A Hypothetical Program Using Novel Technologies And Approaches To Drug Discovery And Development Application Of Human Cells In The Evaluation Of Drug Toxicity I will be lecturing about animal research and alternatives during the Animal Rights 2001 conference in McLean, Virginia from June 30th through July 4th.
