Guest guest
The commercial MEAT FACTORY is a weekly politics/obscure music radio show. It is our intention to bring our community awareness about human, earth and animal liberation as well as fill your mind with enticing and obscure, yet sometimes absurd music. The show airs Fridays from 5-7 pm PST on WPMD 1700 AM and worldwide on the web at www.cerritos.edu/wpmd The first hour is our community forum and the second belongs to the noise. WPMD 1700 AM is available to over half a million residents of Cerritos, Artesia, Bellflower, Paramount, Downey, La Mirada, Norwalk, Hawaiian Gardens, Lakewood and parts of Long Beach & Whittier, California. This list will consists of one email per week informing you of subject matters as well as talk and music radio guests. This weeks guests include the following people: Drug Policy Alliance - Adam Hollander www.drugpolicy.org Drug Policy Alliance is the nation's leading organization working to end the war on drugs and promote new drug policies based on common sense, science, public health and human rights. The Alliance, headquartered in New York City, has offices in Sacramento, Oakland, San Francisco, Washington, DC and Santa Fe, New Mexico. NEW YORK - September 10 - Gov. Jeb Bush’s daughter was found with cocaine at a rehabilitation center where she is undergoing drug treatment, according to a recent Associated Press report from Orlando. Her anticipated arrest comes even as the Bush administration is spending millions of taxpayer dollars in television and print advertisements suggesting that non-violent Americans who use drugs are responsible for funding terrorism. President Bush, when signing the Drug-Free Communities act last December said: “Drug use threatens everything, everything that is best about our country… If you quit drugs, you join the fight against terror in America.” In one government commercial, smoking marijuana was equated with killing an innocent family. And just this month the Drug Enforcement Administration opened a special “drugs and terrorism” exhibit in their museum that exploitatively features an actual piece of the World Trade Center -- even though the tragic events of September 11th had nothing to do with drugs. The Drug Policy Alliance continues to support Florida Governor Jeb Bush’s appeal for respect and privacy in coping with his daughter’s substance abuse problem. But the Alliance also pointed out the sharp discrepancy in Florida’s treatment of drug abuse among people with less political power and financial means. Marijuana Policy Project - Krissy Oechslin www.mpp.org The Marijuana Policy Project works to minimize the harm associated with marijuana -- both the consumption of marijuana and the laws that are intended to prohibit such use. In association with Students for Sensible Drug Policy, MPP will hold its first national conference on November 8-10 in Anaheim, California. SANTA CRUZ, CA - September 11 - In an historic act of civil disobedience, members of the Santa Cruz City Council have invited the Wo/Men's Alliance for Medical Marijuana (WAMM), raided last week by the Drug Enforcement Administration, to distribute medical marijuana to patients in the City Hall courtyard on Sept. 17. During the action, scheduled for 3:00 p.m. PDT, members of the council will stand with WAMM members in an act of solidarity. This dramatic event, which WAMM lawyer Ben Rice calls " our Boston Tea Party, " comes in the midst of a national wave of outrage at the DEA's latest raids, including new calls for Congressional action. WAMM, a cooperative run by and for patients (most with terminal diagnoses), worked closely with local authorities, strictly followed California law and local guidelines, and never sold marijuana to anyone. Nevertheless, armed DEA agents swooped down on the co-op Sept. 5, pointed automatic weapons at paralyzed patients, tore up WAMM's garden, and carted off operators Valerie and Mike Corral in handcuffs. The raid -- the latest in a series of DEA raids targeting small- scale medical marijuana operations run by seriously ill people -- has triggered shock and anger nationwide. _____ This weeks music hour will feature songs by Exuma, Bernard Herrmann, Dead Can Dance, Death in JUne, Aphex Twin, Boyd Rice, Sisters of MErcy, Leonard Cohen and more.......
