AS READERS MUST BE AWARE, I consider myself to be a Marxist, in that I believe the philosopher Karl Marx`s ( & his friend Frederick Engels`) view of historical development to be correct. How ashamed I am to call myself MARXIST, however, when I am faced with the crass indifference to suffering of other (so-called?) Marxists ~ for example, their poo-pooing of anything to do with the rights of animals to our protection & compassion. These people mostly adhere to Lenin`s approach to life & that of Lenin`s heirs in the East: i.e. blinkered, non-holistic, narrow & utterly focussed on " politics " to the exclusion of everything else pertaining to life. They fail to see that life is an integral whole & it doesn`t help that Marx & Engels themselves never commented on the rights of animals, one way or another! All of this is a far cry from the holistic approach to life (although she was caught up in the utterly party-political struggle of German social-democracy in the 1910s) of ROSA LUXEMBURG ~ whom today`s Leninists & leftists of all sorts pay lip-service to. Her letters from prison reveal her personality as consisting of much more than do the sterile personalities of today`s Leninists, & even of many among today`s non-Leninist Marxists (i.e. many even within the current Socialist Party of Great Britain & its companion parties). Looking into the eye of an ox being badly beaten by a cruel farmer, Rosa recognised a common suffering & a common capacity for suffering between humans & animals, & this sensitivity is echoed in the superb film " Rosa Luxemburg " by Margarethe Von Trotta. Yet Leninist dullards with the nerve to call themelves revolutionists, who dare to claim Rosa as one of their heroines no less (!) mock The Raven`s editor for his campaign on behalf of the tortured dogs of Korea & on behalf of other animals, calling his recent condemnation of Buddhist hypocrisy " western chauvinism " & making fun of the campaign to rescue thousands of animals from an ongoing nightmare. " Western chauvinism " is one of the epithets used by Leninists & Maoists, (usually to condemn progress of any kind) & in this case it shows their solidarity is with brutal anti-working class regimes like that of South Korea, Thailand-Siam & others ~ such is their macho horror of being associated with any form of sensitivity. They are, in effect, the left-wing equivalent of the foxhunter, & we know only too well that those with no regard for life in one form have no regard for it in any form (Leninism`s record with regard to the treatment of human beings needs no reiteration for our readers here!) ... But such sloganeering is not the method of non-Leninist Marxists, yet even they mock the movement for animal rights. Please write in to comment on my dilemma.
