Guest guest
I feel that if a whole group or country strayed away from what the Buddha taught, that doesn't make the entire religion bad. That simply means that some people who happen to be Buddhist are choosing to ignore the teachings of Buddha. That, in essence, would make them non-buddhists. Don't you think? I mean, the esence of buddhism is compassion and ahimsa, or non-violence. These who would torture the animals for sake of profit cannot really be Buddhist if the don't follow the profound and simple teachings of Siddhartha Gautauma Buddha. It's as simple as that. So to say that the " religion " of Budhism is bad because some people in a buddhist country are killing animals, (dogs)like saying Musslems are bad because a few people claiming to be musslem hijacked a few plains and crashed them into the twin towers. Or how about Catholic Priests who have permenantly damaged the lives of innocent children with their " weapons " ? Does that mean all Catholics are horrible child molesters? No. These atrocities don't make for a bad religion, they make for bad people. I am an American Buddhist. I don't kill anything to the best of my ability. I do my best to respect all life and adhere to Buddhist teachings. The Dharma is very sacred to me and I take it very seriously. If I accidently stepped on an ant on the sidewalk, or hit a squirrel with my car, would that mean that I am not Buddhist? No. It would mean that I accidently stepped on an ant or hit a squirrel with my car. However, if I claim to be Buddhist and go out and whack a dog in the head with a baseball bat knowing full well what I was doing, then someone would have the right to question my philosophy on Buddhism. Because if I did that intentionally, then obviously I would not be following in the path of Buddha-hood. Don't hate an entire group of people because of something a select few have done. They are choosing not to be Buddhist by killing. Be angry at them for that... for killing... not for being Buddhist. Thank you for allowing me to voice my side of it Veronica
