I came across the story about the woman in Norway who nursed puppies and I

am curious to hear others' thoughts on it. Everyone here at work's reaction

to the story was immediately so negative. I'm not sure that I see how a

baby dog drinking human's milk is any worse than an adult human drinking

cow's milk. One person even asked why the woman didn't give the puppies

cow's milk(!) at which point I imagined a puppy sucking on a cow's teat and

wondered if people would think that that's okay, and why do they get all

weirded out when they imagine a human (themselves) sucking on a cow's teat.

What's more is that this woman was actually helping these motherless

puppies whereas humans consuming cow's milk is unbelievably selfish and

cruel.

Here is the article:

Any thoughts?

Hey Anji - i hear ya!

The story was a little hard to 'digest', i think a lot of people (myself

included) still have a lot of hang-ups about human breast-feeding, and so it

really triggers a nerve.

If i try to look beyond my own squeemishness, i guess i wonder if human

breast milk is really very good for a puppy..? Just 'cause dogs get along

great on 'human' food doesn't mean they do with breast milk as well!!

Otherwise, i think it was a very kind and generous offer on her part. And

you're right about the puppy suckling on a cow, that would be just as weird,

and wrong since she didn't really offer it to the pup..
