Guest guest
Thanks to everyone who has written so far. Here is an update and change of date notice from Farm Sanctuary... If you live in CA and haven't written yet, please do so... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The hearing for AB 732, legislation to protect farm animals from inhumane tethering and confinement, has been changed from April 21. Please note, it will now be heard in the Assembly Agriculture Committee on Wednesday, April 30. This change provides us with more time to mobilize support for this landmark bill, which will prohibit veal crates (for veal calves) and gestation crates (for pigs kept for breeding), two of the cruelest devices in use on industrialized farms. AB 732 successfully passed the Assembly Public Safety Committee on April 8, but it now faces a tough challenge in the Assembly Agriculture Committee, where agribusiness lobbyists have often been able to thwart the advance of humane legislation. It is absolutely critical for California Assembly-members, especially members of the Assembly Agriculture Committee, to hear from California constituents urging their legislators to vote Yes on AB 732. Please call and write, and please encourage others to do so as well. For more information, please go here... http://www.farmsanctuary.org/actionalerts/CA_bills.htm In addition to writing to members of the California Assembly, please write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper. Some points to make include: - Confining animals in two-foot wide veal crates and gestation crates for most (or all) of their lives is inherently cruel (more information about veal crates and gestation crates is available here... http://www.freefarmanimals.org/ -AB 732 is a basic humane measure that merely requires calves and pigs to have enough space to turn around. - Veal crates and gestation crates have been outlawed by European countries, and they should be prohibited in the U.S. as well. - California legislators have an opportunity to prevent unnecessary and inexcusable cruelty by enacting AB 732. Please send copies of published articles to Farm Sanctuary and to your Assembly-member. Farm Sanctuary is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to ending farm animal abuse through direct rescue and protection campaigns.
