Guest guest
I just rescued a dog - completely unintentionally yesterday - and have decided to keep this one. Usually I post signs or foster and find homes. I have not had a dog of my own before I became vegan and am wondering as I search tons of different websites and see all my options what YOU feed your vegan dog. Is there a site that you just love and is priced fairly and is " truly " vegan? She's 5 months old in case that makes a difference in your answer...... please help, in the meantime I'm giving her vegan people food (well you know what I mean.......MY food.....lol) ~ but when I find the right place to buy her dogfood I will order it with express delivery. ANY referrals would be MUCH appreciated!!!!! ~ Jo
Guest guest
well its really not a good idea to just give them people food, just cause its not healthy and they wont get all the nutrients they need. Although.. knowing all the CRAP in most pet foods, anything would be better! haha And if its only for a couple days Im sure it'll be fine lol. I know an awesome site, but really expensive food. But hey, thats what it costs to make good food I spose.. heres the url: http://www.petfoodshop.com/ here is another brand, but you have to prepare the food yourself, and mix this stuff in with it. it talks all about how to do it, etc at the site, and its cheaper than evolution I think: http://www.vegepet.com And heres another site, and its not only for cats despite the url lol: http://www.vegancats.com good luck with the pup! and congrats!!!! -margie ----------------------- I just rescued a dog - completely unintentionally yesterday - and have decided to keep this one. Guest guest
Hi Jo, just wanted to add my 2 cents on this subject.. I read about a border collie in the UK who I believe is the oldest dog alive today, she is 27 and fed a vegan diet! She gets rice, lentils and veggies. Now on the flip side, I am not qyite ready to go that route with my dog but am researching. I also am very leery of giving my boy soy based foods or ones with beans since these are gas causing(not the soy but it has been implicated with bloat) and if you have a breed which is prone to bloat, you may want to question the vet about this. I have a collie who's grandfather died of bloat at age 5 so needless to say it is a substantiated fear. Also, from most of the things I have read, cats do NOT do well on a veg diet..they are true carnivores and even if all their nutritional needs are met, they still seem to die fairly young. There is a veg dog list on and someone posted about Wow-bow dog food, not soy based and I am looking into this. Also, eggs are wonderful for dogs, easily digested and you can use the ground up shells for calcium. I have my own chickens so this makes alot of sense! Hope this helps. Jan The New Search - Faster.
