Twenty-eight deans from major U.S. public health schools, including Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, have endorsed The Meatless Monday Campaign. “The launch of the site officially kicks off the major, long-term health campaign that we are undertaking,†explains Sid Lerner, chairman of The Meatless Monday Campaign. “The site, which blends original content with links to other sites of interest, is an important online destination for consumers eager to learn more about eating better, preparing healthy meals and understanding the health risks posed by high-fat diets.â€Â  Advocating moderation, Meatless Monday’s goal is to reduce American consumption of saturated fat by 15 percent by 2010. The Meatless Monday Campaign follows the recommendations of the dietary guidelines of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the American Heart Association. “As we build exposure, we plan to add more contributors and features to the site,†notes Lerner. “These could include food experts, food personalities, health officials and celebrities among others, all supporting the need for reduced-fat diets and healthier eating. Our goal is to make the site a virtual ‘eater’s digest’ of food, health and entertainment.â€Â Lerner adds that the “Kid’s Room†section of the Web site features a selection of links to recipes, information, games and activities for kids. “It’s essentially a kids’ version of the main site, since we realized that dietary education and healthy meal preparation is something that needs to start early and happens to interest kids,†he says. As a leading international authority on public health, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is dedicated to protecting health and saving lives. Every day, the school works to keep millions around the world safe from illness and injury by pioneering new research, deploying its knowledge and expertise in the field, and educating tomorrow`s scientists and practitioners in the global defense of human life.  The Meatless Monday Campaign, Inc., is a national public health campaign in association with Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The campaign is also affiliated with the Columbia Mailman School of Public Health and has the support of other public health schools as well. Its goal is to help Americans eat healthier by reducing their intake of saturated fat and increasing their intake of healthy alternatives. Source: David X. Guest guest
Now, just wait a moment here! What the bleep is a recipe for CATFISH doing on a Web site titled Meatless Mondays. Catholic Church notwithstanding, fish is still animal flesh and thus should not be included in any attempts to promote meatlessness.
